Packing for Dog Travel by Car from Ireland to Europe via Ferry
Share
For dog travel when we travelled to Europe, we packed dog car beds which doubled as portable beds that we brought into accommodation each time. We packed loads of goodies these included:
- Comfy Blankets
- Dry pet food and cooked chicken which we kept in our hot and cold electric food boxes
- Water, portable food/drinking bowls
- Harnesses, leads and seat belts for safe legal travel
- Dog’s medical kit including calms tablets, tic remover and wormer
- Pet wet wipes, brushes, dog towels
- Doggie T Shirts and fleeces
- Poo bags and normal bags for used wipes
- Toys
- Very importantly a special bribery kit and muzzle to get them on the ferry!
Unlike many people with their dogs, ours were getting on in age, they loved pottering or having a short run but in general the furthest we had travelled in the car with them previously, was a few kilometres! So, this trip was ‘A big deal’ we had to make sure we got it right, for them and for us!
We invested in a dog trainer pre travel to help us get them used to wearing a muzzle. She was great, the best thing we learned from our trainer was to cut a small gap in the base of the muzzle, just enough to get a small piece of chicken through – this worked a treat as we boarded the Ferry!
